What is a mounting table?

A mounting table is a professional workstation used to apply self-adhesive graphics, vinyl, laminates and other materials to flat substrates.

Instead of applying materials manually with a squeegee, the operator positions the substrate and graphic on the table and uses a large roller to apply even pressure across the surface.

Mounting tables are commonly used by sign makers, large-format printers, traffic sign manufacturers and other businesses working with graphics and self-adhesive materials.

The terms mounting table, lamination table and flatbed applicator are often used to describe the same general type of equipment.

How does a mounting table work?

The basic principle is simple.

The substrate is placed on the work surface and the graphic or film is positioned above it. A roller is lowered onto the material and moved across the table, applying controlled and even pressure.

On a pneumatic mounting table such as a Rollover, compressed air controls the roller pressure. This helps the operator achieve consistent application across the full working width.

Because the material remains supported by the flat work surface, even large graphics and panels can be positioned and applied with greater control.

What is a mounting table used for?

A mounting table can become one of the most frequently used workstations in a sign or print shop.

Mounting table vs. manual application

Large graphics can be difficult to apply manually. The operator needs to maintain pressure while controlling alignment and preventing bubbles, wrinkles and other application errors.

A mounting table replaces much of this manual application work with a controlled roller.

This can make production faster and less dependent on individual application technique. It can also help reduce mistakes, rework and wasted material, particularly when working with large or expensive graphics.

For many sign shops, the benefit is therefore not simply faster application. It is a more predictable production process.

Is a mounting table the same as a flatbed applicator?

In most cases, the terms describe the same general type of machine.

Mounting table and lamination table describe common applications, while flatbed applicator is a broader term for a flat workstation equipped with a roller for applying materials.

Different manufacturers may use different terminology, and the construction and features of the machines can vary considerably.
